“Block schedule” vocational training

Vocational training according to the dual system (3 years):

• Vocational college (36 weeks)
• On-the-job training (120 weeks)
• Training at the construction company is supported by inter-company Vocational Training Centres according to the “Step-by-Step Regulation” (37 weeks)

The “block schedule” agreement for vocational training in the construction industry:

1.  Education at a vocational college
2.  On-the-job training
3.  Training at an inter-company training centre

Costs reimbursed by “SOKA Bau” for:

• inter-company vocational training
• related costs for the apprentices
• payment of wages to apprentices (partial):

Industrial apprentices:

• 1^st year: 10 months
• 2^nd year:  6 months
• 3^rd year:  1 month

Advantage: 
All companies in the construction industry pay for training new recruits regardless of whether they offer training or not (1.2% of “total gross pay”).
